Growing the Game Together: London Mavericks x St Margaret’s

8th December 2025

Netball at St Margaret’s has just entered a new era. From elite player mentoring to community coaching events, our new partnership with London Mavericks promises to elevate every aspect of netball life at the School; strengthening our teams, inspiring our pupils, and bringing our wider community together like never before.

On Friday 21 November our community of pupils, coaches, London Mavericks players and parents came together to celebrate the launch of the new partnership in a fun and energetic afternoon of social netball.

A Game-Changing Partnership

Our Head of Netball, Miss Murray-Gill, shared her enthusiasm at the launch event:

“Our partnership aims to bridge the gap from school netball to performance netball. St Margaret’s students will benefit from mentoring with Super League players and performance staff, inspiring the next generation of athletes.”

Pupils can now look forward to:

  • Professional player appearances during Games sessions and after-school training.
  • An online Athlete Mentor Programme, featuring monthly sessions with Mavericks players covering topics such as wellbeing, high-performance habits, leadership, and resilience.
  • Insight into elite-level netball, offering a clear pathway for aspiring athletes to progress from school teams to national competition.

For pupils like Leela and Florence in Year 6 and Ernslla in Y13, who have all recently qualified for the London Mavericks Futures squads, the opportunities are transformative. Ernslla, our school Sports Captain, who has been playing in the London Mavericks U19 Futures Squad since September, reflected on the opportunities the partnership has already provided:

“The support of the School, teachers and coaches has pushed me to train harder and playing for the Mavericks Futures has helped me to be a better netballer. Achievements like this push me to keep going within netball.”

Parents have also welcomed the partnership, recognising the positive impact it has on their children’s confidence, motivation, and enjoyment. One parent noted the ‘amazing team bond’ created through netball at St Margaret’s and expressed excitement about the increased access to professional-level training.

A Community-Focused Partnership

The partnership is not only about developing elite talent; it is equally focused on community engagement. As Miss Murray-Gill highlighted, St Margaret’s hosts numerous netball tournaments and festivals throughout the year. Through the Mavericks partnership, winning teams can now secure free professional coaching sessions, giving more young people in the local community the chance to learn from top-level players and coaches. This collaborative approach aligns closely with the Mavericks mission: empowering girls and women through sport, building confidence, fostering resilience, and creating wider positive social impact.

The Future of Netball

We are incredibly excited about the future of this partnership and the opportunities it will continue to create. Whether through mentoring, tournaments, player visits, or pathway development, the London Mavericks partnership strengthens our commitment to providing outstanding experiences for our pupils. With year-on-year growth already underway, we look forward to seeing more St Margaret’s pupils step confidently into the London Mavericks performance pathway, and to witnessing the lasting positive impact across our school and beyond.
