St Margaret’s School Appoints New Head

25th February 2026

We are delighted to announce the appointment of Mr Ben Turner as our new headteacher from August 2026, following an extensive and highly competitive search.

After receiving an extraordinarily strong field of applicants of exceptional calibre, the interview panel unanimously agreed that Ben was an outstanding candidate. Throughout a thorough and rigorous selection process, he demonstrated significant strength in both academic leadership and pastoral care, alongside a clear and compelling vision for the future direction of the School.

Ben brings wide-ranging experience in whole-school leadership and a deep commitment to ensuring that every child is given the strongest possible foundation for their future. He will build on the exceptional work and legacy of Lara Péchard, guiding our school into its next chapter with energy, ambition and care.

Ben is currently Senior Deputy Head at Wimbledon High School, one of the leading schools in the country, educating more than 1,100 pupils aged 4 to 18. During eight years in senior leadership within a through-school setting, he has played a central role in shaping whole-school strategy and culture, with responsibility spanning academic and pastoral provision from the Junior years through to Sixth Form.

He believes firmly that young people flourish when treated as individuals - given genuine autonomy, encouraged to build confidence and supported in discovering who they are and who they aspire to become at every stage of their development.

Prior to this role, Ben spent eight years at Whitgift School, where he rose to a senior leadership position within a Sixth Form of over 400 students. There, he focused on fostering strong relationships and celebrating not only students’ academic achievements but also their personal growth.

A passionate historian, Ben holds a master’s degree in modern history. Outside of school life, he enjoys running, skiing and climbing, and values the role that challenge and outdoor experiences play in young people’s personal development.

He currently lives in South East London with his wife and young family and has commented:

“St Margaret’s has a distinctive and increasingly sought after place in the independent sector: academically ambitious, personally invested and deeply rooted in its community. Families are looking for an education that combines genuine care with high expectation, where empowerment is meaningful, and every individual matters. This is a school that pursues excellence without losing sight of the whole child.

“ I am proud to lead St Margaret’s into its next chapter, building on its strong momentum and ensuring that its values-led approach continues to attract families who want something more human, more ambitious, and more enduring.”

The Governors and our wider School community all look forward to welcoming Ben and working with him as St Margaret’s continues to thrive and grow.
