Harrow School Delivers Cricket Masterclass

7th May 2021

We are delighted to have teamed up with Harrow School to host a cricket masterclass delivered as part of their Shaftesbury Enterprise programme.

Teaching on site at St Margaret’s each week, to four age groups across both the Junior and Senior School, the programme is designed to not only raise the profile of cricket amongst boys and girls, but also to expose children to the sport at a much younger age.

Speaking about the initiative, Academic Director, Simon Winchester said “More than anything else, pupils have missed physical activity over the lockdowns. We are very grateful to Harrow for opening up this exciting opportunity for pupils to get outside and be active, and to gain some expert instruction in an exciting sport, a sport new to many pupils. I look forward to watching some cricket fixtures behind the Waterhouse building in the future!'

Across all age groups, whether they had played before or not, pupils were able to get a taste for batting, bowling and fielding through both practice and mini-games. Minna in Year 12 said "Going into the masterclass I was quite nervous about doing it because the last time I’d played cricket was years ago with my brother in our garden. However as soon as the class started it was really fun and enjoyable. Having the coaches come from Harrow was really beneficial in terms of fresh faces and expert help.”

We might have a little way to go before we can rival the Harrow versus Eton match that has played at Lord’s since 1805, but it was a great day and we can’t wait to do it all again!
