Celebrating Curiosity and Innovation: STEM Week 2026
20th March 2026
From holding a tarantula to designing a Mars biosphere, and culminating in a STEM Fair that has doubled in size, STEM Week at St Margaret’s School invites every pupil to explore, experiment, and uncover how science, technology, engineering, and maths shape the world around them.
Designed for both STEM enthusiasts and those still discovering the everyday relevance of science, this week is a highlight of the school calendar, sparking curiosity, creativity and discovery.
‘STEM Week helps students see that science isn’t just equations or facts,” says Mr Browne, Head of Science,
“It applies to the real world, to the things they love and enjoy. Our goal is to spark curiosity and help pupils appreciate how STEM influences their daily lives.”

Tuesday 17 March brought Meet the Beasts, an annual favourite where Year 7 students got up close with reptiles and mini-beasts, facing their fears while learning about animal biology. The day also included a Psychology Talk for students interested in a career in clinical psychology, offering insights into training, the profession, and university preparation.
On Wednesday 18 March, Year 9 and 10 pupils enjoyed a talk by John Birchall, exploring the intersection of STEM, global development, and sustainability with a focus on Africa. Meanwhile, Year 12 and 13 pupils engaged with DKMS, a nonprofit fighting blood cancer, learning about the life-saving impact of stem cell donation. The day concluded with a Movie Night screening of Interstellar, combining science inspiration with entertainment.
Thursday 19 March challenged Year 7 and 8 pupils with a Computer Science Escape Room, a digital adventure designed to sharpen problem-solving, computational thinking, and logical reasoning.
Friday 20 March marked the pinnacle of the STEM Week calendar: the annual STEM Fair. Bigger and more impressive than ever, this year’s event featured over 40 exhibits and 80 participants; more than double the number of projects showcased last year. From wind tunnels and go-karts to explosive chemical reactions, the range of ideas on display highlighted the incredible creativity and ambition of St Margaret’s pupils.
Head of Science, Mr Browne commented
“The variety and creativity of our students’ projects is a wonder to behold; this is a chance for pupils to showcase their talents and inspire one another”
Inspiring Lifelong Curiosity
STEM Week is more than a series of events - it is a celebration of curiosity in action. Whether stepping outside their comfort zones, exploring new career pathways, or presenting their own ideas, pupils experience STEM as something they can question, create, and bring to life. With each year introducing bigger ideas and broader opportunities, STEM Week continues to grow, inspiring pupils to see the world differently and recognise the role they can play in shaping it.
