A Record-Breaking Run: Hertfordshire Cross-Country Championships
5th February 2026
On Saturday, 31 January, St Margaret’s School was proud to host the Hertfordshire Cross-Country Championships for the third consecutive year, welcoming over 80 schools from across the county for a memorable morning of competition and community sport.
The event brought together more than 550 young athletes who demonstrated outstanding determination, resilience and sportsmanship throughout the day. With record participation across all races, the atmosphere was charged with excitement as runners took to the course, supported by cheers from parents, teachers and teammates lining the route.
The carefully designed 1600m course across the St Margaret’s School grounds provided an exciting challenge, combining varied terrain and testing turns that pushed each runner to give their very best effort from start to finish.
Each of the four races - U11A Boys, U11A Girls, U10A Boys and U10A Girls - showcased impressive performances and inspiring perseverance. Competitors who finished in the first 12 in their race will have the opportunity to enter the National Cross-Country Championships, taking place in March in Northampton. This is a fantastic opportunity for these young athletes to take their cross-country experience to the next level.
More than just a competition, the Hertfordshire County Cross-Country Championships continues to promote a love of running, teamwork and personal achievement. The smiles, determination and pride shown by every runner made this a truly special day.
