Passing It Forward: From Young Players to Future Leaders
13th November 2025
To mark the opening of our new Sports Centre Field, St Margaret’s held its first U10 Football Tournament last week - in a wonderful showcase of teamwork, talent, and community spirit.
With both boys’ and girls’ competitions running side by side, the pitches were filled with energy, determination, and smiles. Sixteen teams from 10 schools took part, with 128 young players demonstrating skill, enthusiasm, and superb sportsmanship throughout the day.
Our St Margaret’s Girls' Team put in an outstanding performance, finishing as runners-up, their second consecutive final appearance across the last two tournaments. The teamwork, perseverance, and passion of every player—boys and girls alike—shone through, marking another proud moment for our school.
Senior Pupils Lead by Example
The event was made even more special thanks to the involvement of some of our Senior School pupils, who took on the role of referees for the tournament. Under the guidance of our Sports Department, these pupils were given the opportunity to develop new leadership and communication skills while giving back to their school community.
Refereeing not only deepened their understanding of the game but also gave them the chance to inspire our younger pupils, who look up to their older peers with admiration. As Year 10 Sports Scholar, Dylan explained:
“I think they look up to me as a Sports Scholar. Hopefully they’ll see what they can achieve when they get older and want to continue doing sports here at St Margaret’s.”
This interaction between our Junior and Senior School pupils perfectly captures the spirit of St Margaret’s — a place where sport builds confidence, connection, and community.
